Three Pakistan cricket players named in an alleged betting scam have been summoned from training in south-west England to meet top officials in London, the team manager said Tuesday. Test captain Salman Butt and bowlers Mohammad Aamer and Mohammad Asif have been called to a meeting with the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, Ijaz Butt, and the Pakistan high commissioner, Wajid Shamsul Hasan, on Wednesday, Pakistan team manager Yawar Saeed said.
The team are currently in Taunton, south-west England, where they are preparing for a practice match against English county Somerset on Thursday, ahead of a series of Twenty20 and one-day internationals against England. Saeed said that Butt, Aamer and Asif would not be joining their team-mates in training on Tuesday.
The PCB said earlier it will not suspend the players named in the alleged betting scam, revealed in Britain's News of The World on Sunday, until the police find proof of wrongdoing. However, there is media speculation that they will be dropped from the team for the rest of the tour.
