With the arrival of more 2000 flood survivors the number of flood affectees staying in various relief camps set up in the city reached to over 66000 on Friday. The number of affectees in 47 relief camps, run by City Government, has reached over 62,000.
According to sources, the relief camps established by City District Government Karachi (CDGK) hosting thousands of affectees, have received another two thousands people within last 24 hours on Friday.
Besides the arrangements of CDGK different NGOs and welfare organisations were also providing food to 35,751 displaced persons staying in 21 out of total 47 camps established by CDGK. According to official sources in CDGK, City Government has also arranged for education of children of flood affectees in these camps while sports facilities have also been provided for youths.
More than 15 spray vehicles were used in insecticide spray and fumigation around relief camps. Doctors and paramedical staff were deputed in emergency medical aid centers set up in camps. City Government has provided all basic facilities to affectees including food, clean drinking water, medical aid and other things. The IDPs have been also provided with milk packets for children, aftari, plates, glasses and other cutlery items in huge quantity which they would be able to use after they finally settled. City District Government Karachi is presently hosting over 62,000 flood affectees in its 47 relief camps.
The relief camp in Polytechnic School in Razzaqabad Bin Qasim Town has received 7000 people while a total of 9000 affectees have reached the relief camp established in Workers Welfare Board Flats in Gadap Town. The 7 different camps established in Lyari Resettlement Colony, Hawkes bay Road, Keamari Town have received a total of 10612 flood affectees and the Relief Camp in Polytechnic College in SITE has so far accommodated 4000 people. The other camps include the 3 relief camps in Cattle Colony Bin Qasim Town (1200 affectees), Pak Swedish Institute of Technology, Quaidabad (1200 affectees), Government Degree College Manghopir (1361 affectees) and Degree College Murad Memon Goth Gadap Town (1026 affectees).
Administrator Karachi Fazlur Rehman has said that despite facing difficulties city government was, with the help of citizens of Karachi, hosting over 62,000 flood affectees in an excellent manner while more affectees were expected to come. They have been provided with all basic facilities. Senior officers have been deputed in relief camps to ensure better administration and provision of facilities to affectees without delay.
