Petition challenges ban on journalists' entry in courts

A writ petition challenging ban on journalists' entry inside premises of anti-terrorist courts, special courts and tribunals to perform their duties has been filed beforee the Lahore High Court (LHC) The petition has been filed by assistant secretary Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) Wasim Farooq through Muhammad Azhar Siddique advocate, chairman Judicial Activism Panel.
The petitioner said ban on journalists is sheer violation of articles 19 and 19-A of the constitution, which explains that access to information is fundamental right of citizens. He said this act is tantamount to stifling of media.
