Chief Justice of Lahore High Court, Khawaja Muhammad Sharif on Thursday visited Kot Lakhpat jail and issued release orders of 62 prisoners involved in minor offences. During his two-hour long visit the chief justice heard the problems of the inmates and issued necessary directions to jail authorities.
He advised the prisoners to earn their livelihood with legal and honourable ways. He lamented that youth of our country was spoiling lives by indulging themselves in bad habits like drug addiction. The chief justice took notice of sleeping arrangement of 150 prisoners in kitchen of the jail, however, jail administration took a plea that the prisoners worked and slept in different timings. He also directed the judicial officers to decide cases on early basis as the heap of prisoners in jail could be lessened.
The chief justice also examined food and health facility being provided to prisoners and directed the authorities not to compromise on merit at any cost. He also directed to admit a seriously ill prisoner Nabi Ahmad to Services Hospital. District and Sessions, Judge Zawar Ahmad Sheikh and Member Inspection Team Ishtiaq Ahmad were also present on the occasion.
