The United States government is funding a non-governmental organisation that is staffing 26 mobile medical teams, 18 teams operating in Nowshera, Charsadda and Peshawar districts, and eight in Kohat and Hangu districts. Each mobile health team includes a doctor, lady health worker (LHW), dispenser, health educator and psychosocial counsellor.
This USAID (US Agency for International Development) partner also is operating two diarrhoea-treatment centres in Mardan district and one at the district headquarters hospital in Nowshera. Since August 2, these medical teams have conducted a total of 28,551 patient consultations in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, including 1,701 consultations conducted on September 3. On this day, the teams treated 190 patients with acute watery diarrhoea.
The psychosocial support teams are also treating flood-affected people for stress, anxiety, depression and insomnia. United States, so far, has provided more than $258 million (21.93 billion rupees) as emergency humanitarian assistance to the people of Pakistan.
It has also provided other civilian and military in kind assistance in the form of Halal meals, and pre-fabricated steel bridges and other infrastructure support. It has been providing air support to and within Pakistan to transport goods and rescue people, valued at approximately $28 million (2.38 billion rupees).-PR
