History is replete with examples of nations having turned their adversity into a window of opportunity to achieve what they never would have in normal times. Without a cataclysmic tragedy, they often remain mired in retrogressive traditions that block their innate dynamism. It was next to impossible to improve thousand of villages, which have been wiped out, because they were not allowing any one to demolish houses to make the straight roads and supply sewerage and other utilities.
It is possible to show the way to the millions, who have been displaced today by the devastating floods. Now they can be motivated by community leaders by provided some support (financial, technical and moral) by those who understand their needs. As we know these villages were not better than slums, there was no sanitation, no drinking water, not even unpaved streets, human and animals lived alike.
Fifty percent of all children under the age of five were dying from cholera and other diseases. They were never vaccinated for preventive cures for TB, polio and other fatal diseases. The poor, having lost all they had, will become poorer and should not be allowed to become more dependent on the "Waderas". Let the corrupt civil bureaucracy not have greater opportunities of profiteering, exploitation and corruption by overseeing the distribution of funds, awarding of contracts and construction of new roads and infrastructure.
