YouTube, in a move that highlights the Google-owned video-sharing site's broadcasting ambitions, launched a two-day trial on September 13 of a live streaming video platform. YouTube's new live streaming platform debuted featuring material from four content partners: Howcast, Next New Networks, Rocketboom and Young Hollywood.
"Based on the results of this initial test, we'll evaluate rolling out the platform more broadly to our partners world-wide," YouTube product manager Joshua Siegel and product marketing manager Christopher Hamilton said.
Siegel and Hamilton said in a blog post that the new platform integrates live streaming directly into YouTube channels. Broadcasters need to be equipped with a webcam or external USB/FireWire camera.
