Federal Government has decided to constitute a Judicial Commission to probe into the alleged plot to assassinate Khwaja Muhammad Sharif, Chief Justice of Lahore High Court. The names of members of the Judicial Commission would be finalised after consultation with superior judiciary, said a spokesman of the Interior Ministry here on Monday.
He said that the Registrar of Lahore High Court has been asked to suggest names and subsequently the Ministry will finalise the process of constitution of the commission, he added. The spokesman said that the Government has directed the Secretary Interior to ensure that soon after the list is received from Lahore High Court the notification of the Judicial Commission should be issued immediately.
The decision to constitute the Judicial Commission to probe the murder plot was taken a week ago, the spokesman said, adding that Governor Punjab, Salman Taseer was also informed about the decision. Governor Punjab Salman Taseer had written a letter to Chief Justice Supreme Court of Pakistan in which he requested the constitution of a special Judicial Commission to probe the matter relating to the alleged plot. Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry in his reply to Governor Punjab asked him to approach the Federal Government regarding the formation of a Judicial Commission to probe the matter.
