Regional Police Officer (RPO) Aftab Ahmad Cheema has said that strong professional liaison between Punjab Highways Patrol (PHP) and district police is vital for curbing crimes and an effective mechanism is being evolved for this purpose.
He has said that PHP has performed its role up to the mark and ensured safe highways for commuters. He has further said that PHP is playing an important role in ensuring smooth flow of traffic on highways besides providing help to travellers in any kind of distress. Moreover, PHP personnel are working as a first responder in any kind of accident, he added.
He expressed these views while addressing a ceremony in connection with inauguration of newly constructed "Patrolling Post Borewal". Addressing the ceremony, the RPO said that PHP was an important organ of Punjab police and had shared the burden of police by controlling crimes on highways. He has further said that round the clock patrolling of PHP not only saved highways but also the surrounding areas from crimes. The RPO asked the officials of PHP to maintain their good repute and behave with public in more civilised manners. He also interacted with media persons and said that their role was very important for highlighting and controlling crimes.
Furthermore, he briefed the media over the performance of his region and told that he had established strong command and control system to monitor the performance of police officials and introduced accountability system to improve their working. He has further said that he keeps close liaison with DPOs, CPO and Town SPs to monitor the law & order situation and also regularly holds meeting with DSPs and SHOs.
He has said that he has considerably improved police visibility due to which a substantial decrease in crime level has happened. Furthermore, he said that he had given directions to the concerned officials for timely registration of FIRs and streamlined the whole process. The RPO said that despite shortage of human resource he and his team members had ensured effective utilisation of available resources and left no stone unturned to save the lives and properties of the citizens.
