After troublesome tour of Pakistan cricket team to England, Yawar Saeed has resigned from the office of Manager of Pakistan cricket team. A spokesman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said here on Monday that Yawar Saeed has requested the Chairman PCB to be relieved him of his duties as manager national team and the Chairman has agreed to this request.
"I will not take charge as manager of the national team again," Yawar Saeed was quoted as saying by local television channels. He also said the tour was difficult one due to controversies. The news of Yawar Saeed's resignation emerged during Pakistan's recently concluded tour of England but he denied them, saying it was the job of the PCB chief to decide his future.
The recent tour of Pakistan cricket team to England was overshadowed by allegations of spot fixing by Pakistan players. Pakistan lost the 4-match Test series against England 3-1. Pakistan also lost the two T20 matches and 5-day ODI series to England 3-2.
Moreover, national cricket selection committee met in Lahore on Monday for selection of the cricket team for Asian Games and Pakistan A team squad. Chief Selector Mohsin Hassan Khan also met the Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Ijaz Butt and captain Shahid Afridi to consult over the upcoming series against South Africa.
AFP adds: The 75-year-old Yawar Saeed resigned on Monday, just days after the players flew home following controversies over spot fixing. Yawar Saeed is the son of Mian Mohammad Saeed, who led Pakistan in their first unofficial Test in 1948, and brother-in-law to the late fast bowler Fazal Mahmood. Yawar Saeed is likely to be replaced by Shafqat Raana, assistant manager on the England tour.
