Syed Naveed Qamar, Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources of Pakistan led Pakistan's delegation to attend the 2nd ECO Ministerial Meeting on petroleum on Friday in Dushanbe. The first ECO Ministerial Meeting on petroleum was held ten years ago at Islamabad on November 8, says a message received from Dushanbe.
The Minister called on Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, who gave a detailed briefing on the hydropower potential of Tajikistan, road and rail links. President Rahmon highly appreciated Pakistanis role and contribution for the peace and stability in the region. He emphasised further co-operation in intelligence sharing and security apparatuses of the two brotherly countries.
The Minister underscored that Tajikistan being ideally positioned and so close to Pakistan had huge potential of exporting hydropower to Pakistan. In his statement during the Ministerial Meeting, the Minister shared Pakistan's view on Energy Co-operation in ECO region and conveyed its recommitment to the spirit, goals and objectives of the ECO.
He gave a brief overview of Pakistan's energy and underscored the importance of mainstreaming the renewable sources of energy including wind power and hydropower. He stressed for the enhanced, meaningful and result-oriented role of the ECO member states for the regional economic development.
