The sufferings of the thousands of flood affected people are being added at various centres set for distribution of "Watan Card" as they have to pay bribes for getting the Watan cards. Some of flood victims in front of centre on University Road at Mosmiat Chorangi complained on Monday that the police deployed to maintain the security at the centre was demanding money for immediate release of Watan Card.
Safdar, an affected told Business Recorder that some of their fellows have paid Rs 10000 to get the card worth Rs 20000 to the police who had links with those involved in distribution of cards. "I was also demanded Rs 5000 for early delivery of my card but I could not do so as I am already facing financial crisis," he added.
He further said, "Those who pay bribes or have influential persons around can get the card easily while the poor ones have no such facility". Another affected person said that he was visiting the centre for the last eight days but he was yet to get the government announced money.
Some of their fellows, he alleged were getting the card out of turn. However the Nadra on Monday claimed for issuing 300,000 Watan cards so far while ensuring a transparent disbursal of Rs 20000 per family as announced by the government. According to an official statement of Nadra almost 225000 families have drawn more than Rs 2.5 billion.
It said that Nadra was striving on zero error policy to ensure that only deserving families are issued the cards as the system does not allow any human intervention giving space to corruption. The unscrupulous elements for monetary gain manage to hoodwink common citizens before entering the centers but no Nadra staff has been found involved in any kind of corruption, it added.
