The newly elected President of Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) Ghulam Mustafa Chaudhry has vowed to address the problems being confronted by the new and small businessmen of this export-oriented city and hub of cottage industry of the country. In this connection a "Special Desk" for SMEs was being established in the Chamber to facilitate the SMEs of the area he disclosed.
Talking to Business recorder here on Tuesday he said that resolving of problems and difficulties of small and new members is top on agenda of SCCI. Special attention had also been accorded on setting up an "Export Data Bank" in Sialkot Chamber aimed at compiling complete data of export of different countries, which would help exporter community to assess the demands and requirements of Pakistani products in different countries he disclosed. Ghulam Mustafa further said that all channels and modes would be put into practice for enhancing the export-volume of Sialkot.
Undoubtedly, the exporters and manufacturers were suffering adversely due to the unscheduled electricity loading and 2 percent increase in electricity tariff he said. The SCCI President said the load shedding was pushing industrial sector of Sialkot towards shut down that would generate unemployment and other social problems.
The increase in electricity tariff had pushed the cost production upward as a result of which our products become uncompetitive in the international market and will shrink exports and ultimately country would lose huge foreign exchange he added. Ghulam Mustafa demanded the immediate withdraw of increase in electricity tariff as well as further decrease its price so that the industry can be relieved.
