President of Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) Shahid Naseem Khokhar has said electricity loadshedding in South Punjab has increased manifold and MEPCO has failed to supply uninterrupted electricity to the industry and agriculture sector.
In a press statement issued here on Friday He said that it was a big failure of the government of Pakistan as no country could progress without electricity. Recent government's measures of two weekly holidays and other methods also could not help reduce loadshedding. He said due to gas and electricity loadshedding, the industrial sector in Pakistan has destroyed. He urged the government to reactivate the closed powerhouses to minimise power crisis. People of Multan are suffering 8 to 10 hours of loadshedding as on Thursday the power shortfall between demand and supply remained around 3,500 MW.
At present, the temperature is around 38C maximum and the use of air conditioners has become significantly low but still the power shortfall is staggering mainly due to the lowered hydropower generation.
