Botswana's Amantle Montsho smashed the Commonwealth Games women's 400m record on her way to winning the gold medal on Friday in 50.10 seconds. With English Olympic champion Christine Ohuruogo missing the event, along with Jamaica's world-class trio of Shericka Simpson, Novlene Williams-Mills and Kaliese Spencer, the title was there for the taking for Montsho.
She blitzed the field to beat the previous record of 50.17 set in 1998 in Kuala Lumpur by Jamaica's Alexandre Richards. Nigeria's Folashade Abugan (51.39) took the silver and Guyuna's Tabitha Pompey won the bronze (51.65).
