Declaring Pervaiz Musharraf as 'national culprit,' Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Monday demanded his extradition through Interpol for holding trial for misdeeds under Article 6 (High Treason) of the Constitution. N-league made this demand through a chargesheet against the former president wherein it had asked for seven measures against Musharraf.
Musharraf, who toppled Nawaz Sharif's elected government in 1999 in a bloodless coup was at the helm of affairs in Pakistan for eight years, before he paved way for democracy. Earlier, on October 1, Musharraf had announced his much-anticipated return to mainstream politics with an apology for the "political mistakes" he made during last years of his regime.
"Invocation and execution of article 6 of the Constitution of Pakistan for the purpose to penalise him against crimes he committed trampling the Constitution of Pakistan, the State of Pakistan and the people of Pakistan," is the remedy suggested by the PML-N for his misdeeds.
The PML-N said the purpose, which it wanted to achieve through the chargesheet and its demand was 'to stop forever, the violations of the Constitution of Pakistan and ensure that no one even think of imposing martial law in the country.'
The other demands of the PML-N are; it wanted through the chargesheet formation of a commission on the Kargil so that those responsible for the misadventure could be brought to book. Constitution of an independent commission to probe into the situation, which led to death of more than 48 people. Penalisation of Musharraf for violating human rights in lieu of NRO, abductions, massacre, disappearance of people and putting curbs on the media.
Transformation of his resignation into dismissal and revoking his entire fringe benefits, facilitation and immunities which he is currently enjoying as a retired government official (army chief). Hold an independent commission to inquire into the matter which he admitted in his book named "In the Line of Fire" with special reference to his revelations that he had been receiving a handful amount worth billions of dollars for the war against terror and handing over the people to the United States which are known as missing persons.
The chargesheet starts with a preamble, which says, 'General Musharraf illegally took over Pakistan on October 12, 1999. After illegally taking over Pakistan, he committed enormous serious crimes against the Constitution, the state and the people of Pakistan. His rule brought innumerable miseries to the people of Pakistan. He has been the most corrupt, callous, immoral and ruthless ruler of the country and people were subservient to his whims and wishes. It is high time, he be tried otherwise Pakistan would never be able to get rid of imprudent, self-righteous Napoleonic idiocy of military regimes.'
Starting from his take-over of the government on October 12, 2009 the chargesheet has mentioned 14 'misdeeds' for which the former president should be tried under Article 6 of the Constitution.
Misdeeds of Musharraf enumerated by the PML-N include: imposition of martial law, Kargil misadventure, misuse of army for his own cause, declaration of war against people of Pakistan, blackmailing through NAB, murder of Akbar Bugti, disappearance of people and conspiracies in Balochistan, killings in Lal-Masjid, abduction of people, cronyism, nepotism, corruption and favouritism, attacks on judiciary, May 12 and October 18, 2007 massacre and other bloodshed, promulgation of the NRO and unconstitutional and illegal candidature and election as president of Pakistan.
