The Employees Old-Age Benefits Institution (EOBI) was the brainchild of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto who envisioned it as the only pension scheme in Asia. This was stated by Federal Minister for Labour and Manpower, Syed Khurshid Ahmed Shah.
He was speaking as chief guest at the certificate award ceremony of EOBI Officers Training Programme at Hamdard University here on Thursday. Khurshid Shah described Pakistan Peoples party (PPP) as always the pro-job.
He pointed out the PPP confirmed the jobs of 22,000 workers who were hired by different government, were kept intact and confirmed. The Minister further stated that 9,000 employees previously terminated by previous governments were not only reinstated by an ordinance was also passed.
He also declared that now when an employee's child gets admission in any leading institution he will get free of cost education. Khurshid Shah said that the present government has enhanced the minimum wage from Rs 6,000 to Rs 7,000. He stated that in accordance with the vision of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, the PPP government continues to offer employment to qualified and well-deserving youth of the country. This would help in containing the ever-increasing unemployment, the Minister added.
