At least seven more people including a woman have fallen prey to unabated spree of targeted killings, which started from late Saturday night, raising the death toll to 41 during the last three days. An uneasy calm prevailed in parts of the city while business and commercial centres were also forcibly closed by unidentified armed person as a protest against bloodshed of their sympathisers and co-workers.
Attendance in the educational institution, which resumed working after weekend, remained low. People in some badly affected areas preferred to remain indoor to avoid any untoward incident. In an emergency meeting here at Central Police Office (CPO), Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza had ordered the Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) to intensify action against delinquents to bring the peace of city back. He directed the LEAs to ensure proactive policing, effective through uninterrupted co-ordination.
The newly appointed Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Karachi Fayyaz Ahmed Laghari told the meeting 61 accused have been arrested by the LEAs from various parts of the city. Elaborating details, the CCPO said 43 were arrested from West Zone, 10 from East Zone and eight among them were arrested from South Zone.
As per detail, a body of 25-year-old youth was found from nullah in Korangi no. 3 1/2. The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC). Later, the body was moved to Edhi Morgue, Sohrab Goth for want of identification. Another body of 22-year-old youth was found from Bagh-e-Ali, Malir by area residents. The body was taken to JPMC for medico-legal formalities. Sources in Malir City police station told Business Recorder that the victim was identified as Asif son of Rasool Bux. He was the resident of katchi abadi near Bakra Piri, Malir.
Two bodies of 24-year-old man and 22-year-old woman were recovered near Hub Pumping Station in jurisdiction of Manghopir police station. The bodies of the both were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for post-mortem examination. Noor Muhammad, Station House Officer (SHO) Manghopir said the police have found two bodies near Hub Pumping Station. Medico-Legal Officer (MLO) told that the victim received one bullet each in their heads. The criminals burnt bodies of both victims after killing. Both the bodies could not be identified as yet.
A 28-year-old man was shot to death by unknown pillion riders near Karachi Haleem, Hussainabad. The victim was rushed to ASH, but he succumbed on way to the hospital. Later, he was identified as Afroze son of Sheikh Afzal. A security guard of a private company was gunned down at Hussainabad Road in jurisdiction of Jauharabad police station. He was identified as Malik Aqeel son of Malik Sher. The eyewitnesses believed that the victim received bullet from unknown direction. However, police said the security guard, resident of the same area, shoot him by mistake during neutralising company's TT pistol.
In yet another incident, a 28-year-old man was killed by unidentified armed men near Phillips Company, Site Town. The victim was taken to ASH where he was identified as Noor Muhammad son of Gul Muhammad.
