A division bench of Lahore High Court here Tuesday admitted for regular hearing an appeal of the Punjab government against bail granted to former District Police Officer (DPO) Sialkot Waqar Ahmad Chohan, accused of patronising lynching of two brothers and issued him notice. An anti terrorism court of Gujranwala had ordered to release Chohan on bail on furnishing surety bonds of Rs 100,000.
Waqar Chohan is among five policemen: Bashir Ahmed, Mohammad Yasin, Mohammad Akram, Nadir Hussain, Naseer Ahmed arrested in the case. The appellate counsel Ehtisham Qadir submitted that former DPO was not entitled for the concession of bail as his role had been dubbed as supervisor in the FIR of the incident. He said Chohan allowed the angry mob to lynch the two teenaged brothers. He said even Waqar Chohan not called an ambulance to remove the bodies of the deceased brothers and allowed the mob to desecrate the dead bodies. He said the offence fall under section 21 of the Anti-terrorist Act and such an accused could not be granted the concession of bail.
