With the background of fine arts and interior decoration, two women designers in the capital have turned up with an idea of adding creativity to special events, enclosing them in a nutshell of gift boxes. Believing in the adage that 'good things come in small packages', designers Naveeda Sultana and Faiza Rahman Syed are the first in the capital to use their dexterity to enrich happy occasions.
At the launch of Kamaas Design Studio on Tuesday, Naveeda Sultana said the Islamabadiites will now have an option to choose among an array of personalised wrappings and boxes, to give a refined look to their gifts complementing the special occasions. "We have come up with contemporary styles of boxes, while retaining traditional touch to match our unique colourful cultural events," Naveeda told APP, pointing to the glittery yellow and green boxes for Mehndi function, placed at her Studio shelves.
The Kamaas studio - named after a fern that can, not only survive under extreme conditions but also bears flowers, is more like an artist's den. The place is adorned with stuff ranging from gift boxes and wraps, trousseau packing, wedding favours, bridal boxes, goody bags for birth and engagement announcements, and corporate give aways.
Naveeda said 'Made-in-Pakistan' approach has been taken in preparation of items, by using locally manufactured paper and fabric. "The boxes made with Jamawaar - our traditional fabric gives cultural essence to the gifts for weddings and Nikahs, with modern embellishments giving them a classy look," she said. The traditional iron and zinc trunk, that carries a sub-continental history of being an integral part of bridal assets, gets an exquisite velvet cover at Kamaas bringing to it a majestic grandeur.
