Power shortfall remained over 1,700MW amidst mild mercury as generation stood at 12,768MW against a demand of 14,479MW. This shortfall did not prove much disturbing for the domestic consumers as the provincial metropolis registered cloudy weather in the last 24 hours.
However, commercial consumers remained quite perturbed over the rising load shedding. Especially the textile industry circles were highly displeased on the withdrawal of load shedding exemption and feared heavy production losses ahead because of it. They pointed out that the exemption was withdrawn at the time when European Union is set to offer market access to the textile industry. They said the industry would not be able to meet desired results in the presence of heavy load shedding, they maintained.
The consumers stressed that the industry required special tariff for the Pepco-fed units but the government gifted it withdrawal of exemption from load shedding. Meanwhile, hydel generation was 5,976MW with thermal generation of 1,932MW, IPPs generation 4,798MW and IPPS 62MW during the last 24 hours. Supply to the KESC remained 700MW.
