The department of Statistics University of Sindh on the call of Islamic Countries Society of Statistical Sciences (ISOSS) celebrated world statistics day and organised a seminar on "Statistics for the Society" at the department on Wednesday.
A large number of scholars and faculty members from various institutes and departments and a large number of students of the statistics participated. The students of the department of various classes also delivered their speeches and highlighted importance of the statistics.
The student including Sehrish Khan, Anum Muzamil, Arifa Jatt, Shafiq Soomro Nazia Younus, Shamim Zai, Zubair Ali Ghanghro, Faryal Nigar, Falk Naz Ansari, Quratul Ain Zaheer, Muzafar Hussain Bhurgri, Azam Panhwar, Nouman Memon, Madiha Gul, Jahanzeb Khan, Qayoom Pitafi and others also expressed their views on different topics ie collection of data, Characters of Statistics, Bio statistics, Agriculture Statistics, Demography, sampling, statistics and other sciences, correlations and Regression, Statistical Inference and Operations Research. The Chairperson of the department Dr Raja Muhammad Ilyas speaking on this occasion emphasised upon the students to pay attention on deep study and understanding of the statistics.
He said that every field of life is related with the statistic and now days every area needs the help and assistance of the statistics. He pointed out that Statistics is not only as simply collecting numbers but it helps in every walk of life. He said that originally the Statistics was the collection of population and economic information vital to the state and added that but Statistics is now much more and it has developed into a scientific method of analysis widely applied in almost all fields of Social and Natural Sciences and Business.
He said that students and professional must able to read and understand the various Statistical studies performed in their field and also understanding about the vocabulary, symbols, concepts and Statistical procedures used in studies. The Faculty members of the department of statistics Imdad Hussain Soomro, Muhammad Rafiq Daudpota and Anila Noor Qureshi also expressed their views.
