Director General, Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), Tariq Pervez said that all possible steps would be taken for development of Gems and Gemological Institute of Pakistan (GGIP) so that the business of gemstone flourishes in the country and maximum benefit could be availed of this opportunity. He expressed these views while attending a meeting of Executive Committee of GGIP, said a press release issued here on Wednesday.
The meeting was chaired by Chairman GGIP, Zia-ul-Haq Sarhadi while Provincial Chief SMEDA, Javed Khattak, Director TDAP, Mian Sher Zaman, Member Executive Pervez Elahi Malik and concerned officials attended the meeting. Chairman Zia-ul-Haq Sarhadi apprised DG TDAP about the objective and activities of GGIP. He said the institute was set up with the objective of tapping the potential of gemstone deposits by imparting technical education about gemmology to the youth of the country.
He said due to lack of knowledge most of the precious stones of the country are going abroad in uncut and unpolished shape where these stones were sold at high price after value addition. However now, he continued, after the setting up of GGIP, students are getting training and starting business on modern lines. The participants of the meeting also gave approval to the minutes of last meeting of Executive Committee.-PR
