Partly Facetious: Why do PPP politicians keep on contradicting each other?
"What's up in Karachi?"
"I am not quite sure..."
"I thought as a jiyala you would know?"
"Well, the Sindh Home Minister, a die-hard Zardi, first said that an operation would be launched in Karachi..."
"Yes, I heard and Rehman Malik another die-hard Zardi said that the operation would not encompass the entire city but select areas..."
"Right and then the Sindh Home Minister said that there would be no operation only normal policing as the killings are due to bhatta..."
"Given the Karachi police's past performance to end the bhatta culture to take those engaged in this illegal activity requires a law enforcement agency other than the police."
"The hapless Karachiites have, therefore, little to look forward to in terms of an operation focused on dealing with the periodic targeted killings!"
"Correct. Tell me why do the PPP politicians in power keep on contradicting each other and themselves?"
"Rehman Malik hasn't contradicted himself?"
"Oh yes he has - at first he said he will clean Karachi and the operation would be party neutral but then..."
"Murder in the city appears to be partly political if you know what I mean."
"Murder charge must never be dismissed as political."
"So now what?"
"No army operation, neither of the political parties wants that other than perhaps the ANP."
"The Sindh Home Minister had asked for the army on the floor of the house and retracted it at the end of the day."
"What is the impediment to cleaning Karachi?"
"At the risk of sounding like a nawala..."
"Which you are!"
"Anyway, I feel that to keep the present dispensation in power to which they have become accustomed, there is unlikely to be peace in Karachi anytime soon."
"The Prime Minister..."
"Doesn't interfere in Sindh, doesn't interfere in Punjab, other than Multan, doesn't interfere in Balochistan and doesn't interfere in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He doesn't control defence, he doesn't control the economy, he doesn't..."
"I see, and there are no local bodies so that we could say he is the Prime Minister of local bodies."
"Correct, he merely is more ceremonial than the President."
