Speakers at a National Inter Religious Peace Conference held on Sunday under the auspices of National Council for Interfaith Dialogue (NCID) Pakistan have underscored the need for accelerating the pace of dialogues to develop harmonious and peaceful environment in the country.
Dialogues were the best way of promoting harmony, unity and brotherhood among the masses of the country, they said. Speakers were of the opinion that religious scholars, political parties could play an instrumental role in developing consensus on religious tolerance, developing unity among people through dialogue at gross roots level.
They said that dialogues were the best mode of bringing people closer. There was a great need of unity among the countrymen at this critical juncture for foiling the nefarious designs of anti-statements and for the elimination of the menace of terrorism, they said.
The speakers further stated that through unity and collective efforts we could overcome the menace of terrorism, hate and other social evils from the society. All religions have strongly condemned the killing of innocent people and forbidden the brutalities against mankind, they added.
The participants of the conference vowed to continue their struggle for weeding out terrorism, extremism, sectarianism, religious persecution and social injustice from the country. The conference condemned all such groups indulged in utilising media at international level for publishing highly objectionable material based on bigotry against different religions. The conference also strongly condemned terrorism, extremism and incidents based on hate at national and international level.
Speaking on the occasion James Channan said that at this critical juncture the role of religious leaders and scholars had become more imperative for the promotion of brotherhood, peace and unity among the people belonging to different religions in the country. He called upon the religious leaders and scholars that they should come forward and play their pivotal role for the promotion of peace, tolerance and brotherhood among the sects and religions and weeding out the tendency of bigotry from the society as well as converting the country into a peace heaven. The role of women folk could play a key role in developing peace, tolerance and brotherhood in the society, he added.
Addressing the conference National Co-ordinator of NCID Francis Nadeem said that print and electronic media should play its positive role in the promotion of peace, brotherhood and tolerance. The due attention of media in this regard would help in bringing positive change in mindset of the society, he added. Francis Nadeem urged the federal and provincial governments to constitute permanent interfaith dialogues committees at district level for the promotion of peace, brotherhood and tolerance in the society.
