Secretary Health Punjab, Fawad Hassan Fawad has urged upon the public health experts to come forward with a comprehensive strategy based on the scientific research for complete eradication of dengue virus so that this issue would be resolved on permanent basis.
In this connection, Secretary Health has called a meeting of the entomologists, bacteriologists and other medical experts of Institute of Public Health (IPH), KEMU, University of Veterinary Sciences and Health Department, in his office on Monday morning.
He issued these instructions while presiding over a high level meeting to review the ongoing spray/fogging campaign and treatment facilities for the dengue patients, in his office, here Sunday.
Besides, Addl Secretary Health (Technical) Dr Mushtaq Ahmed Sulehrya, DCO Lahore Ahad Cheema, Director Health Management Information System Dr Muhammad Anwar Janjua, EDO Health Lahore Dr Umer Farooq Baloch and District Officer Health (DOH) Dr Haq Nawaz Bharwana and other officers attended the meeting.
DCO Lahore Ahad Cheema observed that the positive results would become within few days of the campaign of spray/fogging and larvicide, which was started in the last week.
Secretary Health Punjab directed the PHA Administration to drain stagnant water from the parks and grounds and minimum water should be released in the grounds to avoid mosquito growth. He also directed to take steps to check mosquito growth in the lacks of public parks.
Fawad Hassan Fawad directed the DCO to chalk out a plan to remove solid waste of sacrificial animals on emergency basis from the roads on the eve of Eid-ul-Azha. He also directed all the Executive District Officers Health to ensure disposal of solid waste on immediate basis with the collaboration of administration of their respective districts so that no disease should be spread out. Secretary Health said that under the law, private hospitals are also bound to report to the Health Department regarding spread of any disease. He directed the officers of Health Department to implement the rules in a letter and in spirit and collect all information regarding dengue patients coming to the private hospitals so that solid strategy could be evolved for future planning in this regard.
Fawad Hassan Fawad directed that Indoor Residual Spray (IRS), fogging and larviciding should be carried out simultaneously for complete eradication of the dengue mosquitoes.
DOH Lahore Dr Haq Nawaz Bharwana informed the Secretary Health that health education campaign at school level is continue and so far more than 60 thousand pamphlets pertaining to the preventive instructions, precautionary measures and symptoms of dengue fever have been distributed among the school children to communicate health message to the general public.
