A pilot project is being implemented under the city district government livestock department for the promotion and protection of poultry in the rural areas of the district under which the selected village ladies are being imparted with the training of giving vaccination to the poultry birds and other preventive measures to avoid the different diseases for the safety of poultry birds.
This was disclosed in a meeting held here with the DCO Naseem Sadiq in the chair to review the pace of implementation on pilot project and its results. The DCO said that the livestock sector could play its significant role to strengthen the national economy, which was required to be developed on grass rout level by providing the maximum facilities to the livestock breeders for proper care and nourishment of the cattle. The DCO stressed upon the veterinary doctors of local livestock department to mobilise all the energies for the training and guidance of the livestock breeders and effective interaction should be enhanced to promote the poultry breeding at domestic level which would help in poverty alleviation in rural population.
He said that the Punjab Rural Support Programme staff was being associated with the veterinary doctors for social mobilisation to promote the livestock and Secretaries union councils, Lumberdars and local notables would also assist them for this purpose.
Stressing upon the accelerating the pace of training to the village women, the DCO said that vaccination in abundance quantity would also be provided to the trained women for the free vaccination of poultry birds. He said the scope of training programme would also be extended from union council to tehsils level and provision of honorarium to the lady vaccinators would also be considered and a unit of 6 poultry birds would be provided to the each lady vaccinator which would be model for the rural population. The DCO stressed upon the lady veterinary officers to perform their duties with full commitment and missionary zeal for the success of pilot project. He directed the crash programme should be launched in winter season for inoculating the cattle and poultry birds and de-worming of the livestock should also be ensured. He said that the performance of the veterinary hospitals and dispensaries should be raised and necessary veterinary medicines and other medical treatment facilities should be available besides ensuring the presence of the staff.
DO Livestock Dr Abdul Rehman informed the meeting that 64 women of 7 villages had been imparted training of giving vaccination to the poultry so far and this task was going of full swing as directed by the DCO. Senior Admn Officer Khalid Manzoor, DDOs Livestock Dr Najam, Dr Farooq, lady veterinary officers and other concerned were present in the meeting.
On the directions of DCO Naseem Sadiq, the city district govt has set up 14 sales points out of the city area for the sale of sacrificial animals where any fees or tax would not be charged. Senior Admn Officer Khalid Manzoor informed that the necessary facilities, including tentage, drinking water, lighting and security would be provided in these sales points, besides ensuring sprinkling of water and cleanliness. He said the sacrificial animals could not enter in the city area for sale to avoid traffic jam and environmental pollution. He warned that the action would be taken against the sale of animals in the city area and animals could be confiscated besides getting the cases registered against the sellers.
He informed that the sale points had been set up on Jhang road near green market on Sargodha road near Motorway Interchange, on Satiana road near T&T colony, on Samundri road Cattle Market Niamuana, on Millat road near Tanaula where as in Jaranalwala the sale point had been earmarked at Faisalabad Jaranwala road near Jhal, Buchian More and Sherwana Pul Khurrianwala road. He said the sales points for the sacrificial animals have been specified in Tandilianwala Canal road water works and Jhalla More, likewise in Samundri these sales points would work on Raja road near Shahbaz Sharif park and Faisalabad Samundri road near By Pass, in Tehsil Chak Jhumra it has been set up near Railway station.
