The Chief Justice (CJ) Lahore High Court has called for a detailed report from Chief Secretary Punjab till November 15 on the government policy of free education to students and revenue generation tactics of BISE Lahore. During suo motu proceedings Chairman BISE Dr Muhammad Akram Kashmiri submitted a report, stating therein that fee of Rs 450 is charged to generate funds because the cost of result cards paper is very high.
CJ Kh Muhammad Sharif expressed annoyance over decision of the board to charge fee for issuance of result card to students against the government policy. The CJ held that generating funds should not be job of BISE as the government is providing funds to the board.
Chief Justice remarked, it is strange that on one hand the Chief Minister Punjab has exempted registration fee and examination fee for students and on the other hand board is receiving fee of Rs 450 for issuance of result card. The Chief Justice inquired the chairman whether in past also the board used to charge fee and the chairman answered in negative. "If earlier the fee was not being charged then why now the board is burdening the people," Chief Justice remarked.
Later the Chief Justice asked additional advocate general Punjab M Hanif Khatana to get detailed report from the Chief Secretary about the policy of the Punjab government on the matter. The Chief Justice also asked Zafarullah Khan, a senior advocate, to assist the court in the matter on the next hearing.
The Chief Justice took suo motu notice against the BISE on a press appeal published in a local newspaper by applicant principal Allama Iqbal Public High school Kasur who had sought indulgence of the CJ in the matter to save students from the injustice.
