At least eleven passengers including six women and a child died and another 17 injured when a speedy van fell into the river Chenab after a collision with a 22-wheel trailer at a bridge near Chund (Jhang district) some 170 km north-east of Multan on Thursday.
DPO Jhang Dr Muhammad Rizwan said that this mishap occurred due to reckless driving resultantly six persons died on the spot and another five died in District Head Quarter Hospital Jhang. The DPO said that Sargodha bound minibus carrying 32 passengers collided with a trailer at Chenab bridge in a bid to overtake another vehicle. Six persons including a child died on the spot and another five died in hospital.
Ten passengers were referred to Allied hospital Faisalabad because their condition was stated to be serious. Medical Superintendent of DHQ Hospital Jhang Dr Muhammad Mumyaz Khan Siyal said, "we have ten bodies of ill-fated passengers, six died on the spot and another four died in hospital. He said that total 26 injured were hospitalised and ten were referred to Faisalabad and ten relieved after first aid. Rescue 1122 in charge also confirmed the casualties of eleven persons.
