The Opposition on Thursday once again created rumpus in the National Assembly on the escalating prices of petroleum products along with general price hike and tried to move a resolution for voting on recent increase in fuel prices.
Divided political opposition parties, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q) joined hands in the lower house of parliament on the issue of general price hike and escalating fuel prices and started pressing the Speaker to allow them to move a resolution instead of general debate on price hike. The uproar was witnessed when Opposition members were not allowed to table a resolution demanding withdrawal of increase in the petroleum products prices.
The uproar in the House started when Pervez Malik of PML-N sought to move the resolution. He said that as many as 80 members have signed the resolution and asked Deputy Speaker Faisal Karim Kundi to allow him to move it by suspending the business of the House. But the Speaker did not allow moving the resolution and said that it is item eight of the agenda about Adjournment Motions regarding discussion on increase in of petroleum products price.
But Pervez Malik said, "We are not ready to debate it, we want voting on the separate resolution on petroleum price in the House. It is not time of debate as the people are already severely affected by price hike. "I will not give permission to move resolution. It is totally political point scoring," the Speaker said.
On this development, the opposition members including Marvi Mamon, Hanif Abbasi, Abid Sher Ali and others stood up and started thumping desk and chanting slogans, "Price hike unacceptable, Price hike unacceptable, withdraw increase in petroleum products prices." Kundi urged the opposition to pursue the agenda and initiate debate. The Deputy Speaker adjourned the session till Friday (today) 10 am amid uproar in the House.
