The management of Lahore Zoo has chalked out an effective security plan, besides arranging special programmes to attract visitors on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha. Director Lahore Zoo, Iqbal Khalid told Business Recorder that special force would maintain security arrangements, as a large number of people throng Lahore Zoo on occasions like Eid.
"Every visitor would have to go through walkthrough gates installed at entry points. He added that CCPO Lahore is extending all out help to ensure security of visitors. He further said magic shows will be staged for three consecutive days, starting from Eid day, to provide quality entertainment to the visitors. The shows will be related to animals, birds and other connected subjects, he added, saying he hoped that around 0.3 million people would visit the zoo during the holidays.
About the zoo, Khalid said that it is spread over 25 acres from around a century, as no extension has so far been made. "We moved a proposal to merge Lahore Zoo with Bagh-e-Jinnah so as to provide the visitors enough breathing space." He added that another proposal regarding shifting of Zoo at Lahore Park (Safari Park) at Raiwind road is under consideration.
With a view to bring Lahore Zoo at par with international standards, its extension has become imperative, he added. We are planning to organise Panda Exhibition and for this purpose, housing facilities have already been developed, he added.
