The Transport and Communication Department of City District Government Karachi (CDGK), will soon approach international organisations to help minimise road traffic accidents in Pakistan, particularly, in Karachi.
This was stated here on Sunday by Executive District Officer, Transport and Communication Department of the City District Government, Atiq Baig, in a message on the occasion of World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims observed on 21st November throughout the world. "Deaths and injuries caused by road traffic accidents should be treated as seriously as other disasters, and they should also receive the same attention as other victims of violence," he said.
Referring to the world-wide figure of road accidents, he said the number of road accidents in Pakistan particularly in Karachi is also alarming. He said that world organisations and donors should also share their responsibility by providing support for capacity building of functionaries as well as financial support in carrying out projects effectively.
The EDO said that the CDGK would seek co-operation from world organisations to work on scientific basis and bring the results according to the needs of the future of Karachi.
He further said that it is a day on which all those killed and injured in road accidents are remembered, together with their families. He also said that on this day policy makers, elected people, schools, members of the civil society and various other stakeholders reminds them of their responsibility to provide protection to the road users and play their role effectively.
