Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) will discuss launching of countrywide 'civil disobedience movement' in its Central Executive Committee's (CEC) meeting next week in case the controversial Reformed General Sales Tax (RGST) is levied. Talking to Business Recorder, PTI Press Secretary Tahir Jamil said that the party had serious reservation over the Reformed General Sales Tax Bill, 2010, which is yet to be passed by the National Assembly after getting nod by the Senate.
If passed, Jamil said that the PTI would decided about the 'civil disobedience move' across the country in its CEC meeting to be held next week upon arrival of party's chief Imran Khan from London. To a question, he said that CEC meeting would decide future course of action regarding the civil disobedience move inviting other political parties and Civil Society organisations to join hands with the PTI in case the 'controversial' Bill is passed.
However, he said that the PTI chief had firm belief that the National Assembly would not let the controversial bill go through unchecked as the poor people were already facing back-breaking price hike and inflation. In such a situation, he claimed the people would welcome the PTI's call for a civil disobedience move against taxing them further.
He further said that the party was monitoring the entire political scenario microscopically on the basis of which, Imran Khan believes that the incumbent government has completely failed to deliver as per its mandate and it is most likely that the country will go for fresh general election in next six months. It is pertinent to mention that PTI Chief Imran Khan warned the government of launching a 'civil disobedience movement' if the Reformed General Sales Tax (RGST) is imposed while addressing a big rally in Lahore the other day.
