National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has arrested Mohammad Minhon Khan Chandio, Ex-Chief Engineer Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) on the charges of accumulation of assets/properties beyond known sources of income. According to a statement issued here on Tuesday, Chairman NAB, former Justice Syed Deedar Hussaini Shah, on taking over the charge of the bureau, had issued instructions to regional officers to expedite the pending cases.
The Deputy Chairman, Javaid Zia Kazi during his visit to NAB, Sindh reviewed these cases and issued strict directives to expeditiously bring these to a logical end. As a sequel to these directives, NAB, Sindh arrested Chandio on proving of allegations of accumulation of assets/properties beyond known sources of income. During the investigation, more than 40 properties were found in his name and in the name of his family members. Chandio was arrested after his pre-arrest bail CP No D-1161/2010 was dismissed by the high court of Sindh.
Later, the accused voluntarily opted for plea bargain amounting to Rs 56 million and deposited an amount of Rs 19.05 million. However, he defaulted in the payment of remaining amount of Rs 37 million approximately. Consequently, Chairman NAB signed reference against the accused, which was filed in the Accountability Court Sindh in Karachi on April 22, 2010. The court issued non-bailable warrants on May 5, 2010 in reference No 01/2010 against the accused.-PR
