Islamabad Police have filed 52 cases of corruption and anti-social activities against its officials and terminated over 100 in last two years. Those removed from services include seven sub-inspectors, 11 assistant sub-inspectors, 11 head constables and 67 constables, whereas 52 cases had been registered against them, said a spokesman of Islamabad Police on Wednesday.
Aabpara Police station registered four cases against the policemen, Kohsar four cases, Secretariat five cases, Bhara Kahu three cases, Margallah 10 cases, Shalimar four cases, Tarnol one case, Industrial Area nine cases, Golra two cases, Sabzi Mandi two cases, Shehzad Town one case, Koral four cases and Nilore Police station has registered three cases.
After assuming charge as Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kaleem Imam made efforts to purge the force of corrupt elements as with substantial increase in pay and allowances policemen were expected to perform their duty honestly, Police spokesman said.
He said that during 2010, a total of 1,486 cops of Islamabad police including 36 inspectors, 104 sub-inspectors, 126 assistant sub-inspectors, 96 head constables and 1136 constables were awarded punishment on various charges. The punishment includes dismissal, stoppage of increments, demotions, and deduction in service period and fines.
While renewing the commitment to make Islamabad police corruption-free, Imam said that no corrupt element would be allowed to stay in the department and those following policy of zero tolerance would survive.
The IGP said that Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has already set the precedent for other law enforcement agencies to follow and is declared, as corruption-free force after certification by ISO-9001.
Over 3,000 policemen were awarded cash prizes and commendation certificates for their good performance, while eight police officers were recommended for QPM in 2010. A total of 12 officers and nine martyrs were awarded PPM/QPM in the year 2009-10, adding that a vigorous system of rewards and punishments will help improve the performance of the force. He said that punishment and encouragement system would be continued in future to make the force corruption free.
