‘Beyond the Clouds’ maker discloses why he rejected Deepika Padukone
Iranian director Majid Majidi recently revealed why he chose a Malayalam cinema actress Malavika over Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone, even after she auditioned for the role.
Renowned filmmaker Majidi’s latest movie ‘Beyond the Clouds’ has been garnering a lot buzz for being the debut movie of Shahid Kapoor’s half-brother Ishaan Khattar. However, another Bollywood who showed a lot of interest in staring in the movie was none other than ‘Padmavati’ star. The B-Town diva gave auditions for the movie, the pictures but the director had plans of his own. In the audition pictures, Deepika was seen in a complete different look in which we have never seen her before.
“I did not want to work with Bollywood superstars. I always wanted to shoot at different locations in Mumbai, because places are also characters in my films. But even for one audition, it was difficult with Deepika as there was a large crowd and even more curiosity. That was the reason for not wanting to cast a superstar,” the filmmaker said, Pinkvilla quoted.
“I choose my subjects from the society... I choose my heroes from the crowd. I mostly work with newcomers, but this doesn’t mean that I don’t want to work with professional ones,” Majidi said at a press conference on the sidelines of International Film Festival of India (IFFI).
