Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Monday ruled out talks on Reformed General Sales Tax (RGST) between its chief Nawaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari at a scheduled presidential banquet to be hosted by the latter in honour of the Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao on December 18.
Talking to Business Recorder, the PML-N spokesman Siddiqul Farooq dispelled the impression that PML-N chief was going for a meeting with President Zardari and clarified that Nawaz Sharif will be going to the presidency to attend a banquet in honour of the visiting Chinese Prime Minister. He was commenting on President Asif Ali Zardari's Sunday telephone call to PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif.
"This is not a personal dinner to be hosted by President Zardari, Nawaz Sharif is going to meet Chinese Premier," Farooq said, adding that the PML-N was enjoying 10-fold better relations with China and its leadership than Zardari and his party. He said that China is a good friend of Pakistan and both opposition and the government have the same sentiments regarding relationship between the two friendly countries. To a question, the PML-N spokesman dispelled the impression that the two leaders would also talk on the government move to impose the RGST, adding that the party was sticking to its stance.
When asked whether the two leaders would also discuss the increasing political confrontation between the two parties in the light of the reconciliation policy of the PPP led government and President Asif Ali Zardari, he alleged the President for not doing 'right' deeds saying that it could not be possible in the presence of Law Minister Babar Awan. "Nothing right is being done by the President who has fielded Babar Awan for this purpose," he said, adding the statements being given by the Law Minister do not illustrate that PPP wants reconciliation.
