Tanneries shifted to industrial estate

All the tanneries have been shifted to industrial estate area except a few mechanical tanneries which were equipped with 'partial treatment plants'. District officer environment Zafar Iqbal told APP on Monday that partial treatment plants treat waste before it is excreted. "However, action could still be taken against them in case of any complaint", he added.
He said that small factories operating in streets and localities to prepare 'nimko', bakery items and sweets could also be proceeded against on violation of national environmental standards. "We do not wish to harm small businesses or affect earnings of people. However, every individual must understand his responsibility towards environment protection", he explained.
