Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) on Friday restored power supply to defaulting consumers linked to 11 disconnected PMTs in Korangi on the assurance of area MPs for recovery of dues worth Rs 45 million. Arrears of around Rs 45 million are outstanding against various commercial areas in Korangi including Zaman Town and 100 Quarters.
After the consumers failed to pay the amount despite repeated reminders/notices, power supply to 11 PMTs including Nasir Colony, Q Area, Zaman Town, 100 Quarters Korangi and Mohammadi Market was disconnected on December 23, 2010. A Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) official told Courier Newthat the decision to restore power supply was taken in connection with the ongoing policy to motivate non-paying consumers through elected representatives for payment of outstanding bills.
He said the MPs took the responsibility of motivating the non-paying consumers and bringing them to a payment agreement after which power was restored. The MPs assured that a decision to reach a payment schedule would be taken in a meeting convened by Member National Assemble Asif Husnain on Saturday, December 25, he added.
