Taiwan stocks fell 0.24 percent on Tuesday as investors pocketed profits from high-flying tourism and financial shares that have been benefiting from warming trade ties between Taiwan and China. Taiwan's main TAIEX share index closed down 21.55 points at 8,870.76. The tourism sub-index was the biggest loser, down 2 percent. Financials fell 0.28 percent, giving up early gains inspired by hopes that Taiwan's central bank would raise interest rates on Thursday.
Among other major losers, auto shares slid 1.96 percent and the textile sector was off 0.9 percent. China Life Insurance shares jumped 6.86 percent, the daily limit, after the company said on Monday it would invest 379 million yuan ($57 million) in an insurance arm of China Construction Bank. Its shares has also risen by the maximum allowed on Monday.
