World Bank, DFID provided Rs 2.43 billion for HIV/AIDS prevention, Senate told

World Bank and Department for International Development (DFID) provided around Rs 2.43 billion fund for HIV/AIDS prevention in Pakistan during last six years. In written reply to a question, Minister for Health Makhdoom Shahabuddin told Senate on Thursday that the global fund and the World Bank were committed to provide financial support for prevention of HIV/AIDS in the country.
He said that there were 97,400 HIV positive cases in the country. Out of these, 4000 HIV cases were registered with 14 HIV treatment centers across the country, he informed. The Minister said that with increasing awareness about HIV in the country, more people were now being tested positive for HIV/AIDS disease. To another question, the Minister informed the Senate that a total of 134 cases registered in the country during 2010.
