Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Syed Sumsam Ali Bukhari said that the government was not considering any amendment to the blasphemy law, saying that "Namoos-e-Risalat" is a very sensitive issue. Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, the Minister categorically said that there was no proposal under the ruling party's consideration to amend the law.
He said that the government had no plan to table in the Parliament any bill regarding the blasphemy law. He requested all the political parties not to politicise the issue. Responding to a query, the Minister said that the reported statement of Governor Punjab Salman Taseer was his individual and personal viewpoint, as he was not a spokesman of the party or federal government.
He also disowned the bill tabled by former information minister Sherry Rehman and said it was a private member bill. Regarding Asia case, the Minister said under the law, she had the right to appeal in High Court and the apex court besides submitting mercy petition to the President.
