A complete shutter-down strike was observed in most places of lower Sindh, here on Friday, like other parts of the country on the call of religious parties to protest efforts to amend the blasphemy law. All the shops in the markets, bazaars and shopping centres were close while traffic remained thin.
Transport was off their routes, resultantly, people faced hardships in reaching their destinations. The strike was observed in Mirpurkhas, Jhuddo, Naokot, Samaro, Pithoro, Kunri, Umerkot, Kot Ghulam Muhammad,Umerkot, Khipro, Sanghar, Tando Adam, Shehdadpur etc.
On this occasion, strict security arrangements were made as police personnel were deployed at main roads, sensitive buildings, chowks and entry and exit ways of the city to avert any untoward incident. However, no untoward incident was reported till filing of the news.
Also, a shutter down strike was observed in all eight talukas of district Khairpur on Friday on the call of religious parties against any proposed amendments in the blasphemy law.
The strike was witnessed in all eight talukas of the district namely Khairpur, Kingri, Kotdiji, Nara, Gambat, Sobhodero, Tharimirwah, Faiz Gunj and other parts of district. Shops, bazaars, markets and business centres remained closed while public transport remained very thin due to which people, especially passengers, faced difficulties.
