Khyber Pakhtunkhawa Minister for Information, Mian Iftikhar Hussain on Tuesday said that current political turmoil would have adverse affects on democracy and the much trumpeted rumours about in-house change would further deteriorate the situation. Talking to APP exclusively here, Mian Iftikhar, who is also the provincial spokesman, said that each party was autonomous in taking its decisions but the heads of all political parties must keep the end results in their mind.
He said that political turmoil could derail the democratically elected government in the country and its negative affects would spill over to next generations and would weaken democracy norms. With regard to his party's viewpoint, he said that the ANP firmly supports the present government and would stand by it through thick and thin. "The support was based on principles and would continue for strengthening of democracy in the country", he added.
In reply to a question, Iftikhar Hussain said that PPP being representative of the majority has the right to have its Prime Minister and other political parties must realise this basic fact. Referring to charges of corruption and price-hike, he said that in-house change was not the solution of the problem and all the political forces should unite and join hands to address the issue.
He said that the MQM has decided to sit on the opposition benches in the parliament but has stated it categorically that it would not be part of any conspiracy against the government. Likewise, he continued that PML (N), PML (Q) and JUI (F) were against derailing of the present government and has assured that they would not let anti-democratic forces to win. He said that JUI (F) was ruling in coalition with PPP in Balochistan and MQM in Karachi and as such they were still part of the government.
Reply to a query, Mian Iftikhar said that the present situation could be dangerous or mere storm in a teacup as both chances were possible. "It remains to be seen where does the current turmoil leads us to", he said, adding that the democratic system was functioning smoothly and must be given its chance to complete its term.
