Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kaleem said that Islamabad Police would be made friendly police and every possible step to be taken for promoting its relations with public. Islamabad Police is a role model for other law enforcement agencies and it would be made a complete professional force, Imam said while reviewing the feedback report of various visits of police officials to educational institutions, media organisations and NGOs contributing in social welfare activities.
The IGP appreciated the performance of the police officers who, played effective role in bridging the gap between police and public by ensuring community participation in the effective policing. He said that capacity building programmes have also been initiated for the police officers, which will not only help improve their professional skills, but also help maintain liaison with the public.
A magazine from Islamabad has been also printed, while each zone of Islamabad police is printing its own magazine to highlight performance and make better understanding about the police functioning, he maintained. It is to mention that IGP Kaleem Imam attended 50 ceremonies/functions during 2010 and tried his level best to promote good image of the force by ensuring friendly police ecology in the city with co-operation of the citizens.
There is always space for improvement, the IGP said, adding that purpose of involving community in police affairs is to get public opinion to make it effective force. "One should present itself for accountability if wants improvement and progress in life. Keeping in view the same aspects, Islamabad police presented itself for accountability and sought public co-operation in effective policing," he maintained. People hailing from various walks of life appreciated IGP Islamabad for taking steps to make police a true service-oriented organisation and maintaining strong relations between police and public.
