Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control and the world over are observing the Right of Self-determination Day on Wednesday. According to Kashmir Media Service, the observance of the Day is aimed at reminding the world that the United Nations resolutions on Kashmir remained unimplemented even after the passage of several decades.
On this day in 1949, the UN adopted a resolution, acknowledging Right of Self-determination of Kashmiris and giving them the right to decide their future by themselves. According to a private news channel, Mirwaiz while criticising bitterly the UN's obduracy for not resolving Kashmir dispute as yet said in case UN fails to implement its resolutions than they should disband their office from the valley.
Mirwaiz while addressing media men in Srinagar demanded that the UN should facilitate them with an arbitrator in this regard. He said: "It is the moral duty of the UN that in case they don't agree to close their office in valley than at least they should fulfil their responsibilities". Mirwaiz stressed that UN should come forward and help resolving this long delaying issue of the valley.
He said, "we have recommended already an option of alternative mechanism of negotiations to the UN." He recalled that this option had been adopted by many states and countries to resolve their issues as it is based on careful thinking and planning. Mirwaiz maintained that this issue should be streamlined as time had come that it should be internationally monitored. He said the UN should come forward or others, as now this issue is time bound.
