Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid) leader Amir Muqam on Saturday met Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani. The meeting was held at the Prime Minister House. The meeting has been considered an offshoot of the Prime Minister Gilani's last Monday meeting with PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and party's central leadership including Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and Faisal Saleh Hayat.
Sources said issues pertaining to prevailing political situation came under discussion during the meeting and the Prime Minister tried to convince the PML-Q leader not to oppose any possible co-operation with PPP. Amir Muqam, PML-Q's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa president and central leader Faisal Saleh Hayyat are among strong opponents of any possible co-operation with the PPP. However, sources said the Prime Minister during last Monday meeting with PML-Q leadership, sought future co-operation and also invited Muqam to mend fences.
The PPP is under pressure after the ultimatum given by PML-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif. The ultimatum expires Monday. The political pundits said that though being president of PML-Q Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter, Muqam might not play any role in unification of the two parties in Punjab.
Sources said Muqam also pointed out the alleged pre-poll rigging in the bye-election on the vacant seat of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, constituency PF-87 (Shangla-1) and urged the Prime Minister to ensure free, fair and independent elections on the seat lying vacant on the demise of PML-Q's former MPA Zahir Shah.
