Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that the most modern forensic lab of South Asia is being established in the provincial metropolis which will prove to be a milestone in the eradication of crimes from the country especially from Punjab, bringing the criminals to the book, investigation of heinous cases on scientific lines and provision of justice to the people.
He issued instructions for speeding up construction work and early completion of the forensic lab. He was addressing a briefing meeting on his visit to the under- construction Punjab Forensic Science Agency near Thokar Niaz Beg Sunday. Inspector General Police, Home Secretary, Secretary Health, and senior officers concerned were present. Project Director Forensic Lab Nayyar Mehmood gave a detailed briefing on this occasion.
The Chief Minister said that project of setting up a forensic lab of international standards was of vital importance which will not only help curb the crimes but also trace the criminals involved in heinous cases for bringing them to justice.
He said that establishment of this unique and latest lab of South Asia would not only benefit Punjab but other provinces of the country as well.
He said that protection of life and property of the people and eradication of crimes is the top Priority of the government and setting up of the forensic lab is an important step in this direction. He said that every life is precious to the government therefore funds are being provided for this Important project by curtailing other expenditure. He said that most of the work on this project would be completed by 31st March and this lab will start functioning to its full capacity within next few weeks.
He said that modern training of experts employed for the lab has been arranged abroad and crime scene investigation, computer forensic, Pathology, polygraph readers, toxicology, trace chemistry, Fingerprints and death scene investigation and other sections are being established in the forensic lab.
Briefing the meeting, the Project Director Punjab Forensic Science Agency Nayyar Mehmood informed that the most modern lab of Asia is being constructed over more than two lakh square feet.
He said that a high standard is being maintained in every respect and the lab will be one of the best forensic labs of the world.
