Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) has launched a mobile mammography service costing Rs 30 million for breast cancer patients, free of cost. An inauguration ceremony was held at PMA House on Thursday. Provincial Minister for Health Dr Saghir Ahmed after inauguration told journalists that the step taken by PMA for protecting women from breast cancer is a commendable move.
Secretary Health Sindh, Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi was also present. He said the treatment becomes possible as soon as the deadly disease is diagnosed. The minister said the mobile mammography service would conduct breast tests of 25 to 30 women daily. The mammography charges at any private hospital are over Rs 2000 but this facility would be provided to poor patients free of cost here.
A PMA official Dr Qaiser Sajjad said that mammography tests facility would not only be provided at PMA House but also rest of the hospitals and other parts of the city. There would be two lady doctors and paramedical staff at the service which would be very helpful for women, Sajjad said.
