Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affair Dr Babar Awan on Thursday said that the decision to grant university status to Sindh Madrassah-tul-Islam, Karachi is a new year gift to the city of Quaid-i-Azam and believers of his ideas. He was talking at the concluding meeting of the cabinet committee on grant of charter for university status to Sindh Madrassah-tul-Islam, which was held under his chairmanship.
The meeting was attended by Education Minister Sardar Asif Ahmad Ali, Petroleum Minister Syed Naveed Qamar, Secretary Law Muhammad Masood Chisti along with senior officers of Law and Education Ministry. Dr Babar Awan said that Sindh Madrassah-tul-Islam is alma mater of the founder of Pakistan Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. In addition, Sindh Madrassah-tul-Islam has the distinction to educate various distinguished leaders of Pakistan movement. Considering the importance of the Madrassah, Shaheed Quaid-i-Awam Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto handed it over to federal government in 70's.
Dr Babar Awan reiterated that Quaid-i-Azam is not only a world leader and charismatic personality of Muslim Ummah but also a great benefactor, and father of nation, hence it is dire need to upgrade this esteemed institution and national heritage as a federal university.
He added that with enhanced capacity, the Madrassah, as university would be better able to cater for educational requirements of new generation of students belonging to four provinces, Gilgit Baltistan and Fata in line with ideas and golden principles of Quaid-i-Azam. The Sindh Madrass-tul-Islam as Federal University can expand by opening new campuses and centres in four provinces in order to impart awareness to new generation regarding ideas and golden principles of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, he maintained.
